  • The Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology wishes to appoint a PhD candidate in the area of carbohydrate microarrays. The position will start on July 1, 2010 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and will run for 3 years.

    Job description
With reference to the project manager, the work of the PhD student will consist mainly of duties in connection with research and development within the area of carbohydrate microarrys as applied to plant cell wall glycans and the screening of carbohydrate active enzymes and molecular probes. This project will place particular emphasis on dietary glycans, such as plant fibres and is part of the LeanGreenFood EU-funded network (http://www.leangreenfood.eu/everyone).

  • PhD scholarship on RELATIVISTIC ELECTRONS IN ELECTRIC DISCHARGES is available at DTU Space, Copenhagen, with start date September 1st 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position, which is funded by The Danish Council for Independent Research | Natural Sciences, is related to a mission planned for the International Space Station: ‘The Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor’ (ASIM) for observations of extreme thunderstorms and their influence on the atmosphere. The project will study how electrons are accelerated to relativistic energies in electric discharges in the atmosphere. The question has been raised after the surprising observations from satellite of high-energy radiation from the atmosphere above powerful thunderstorms, and from lightning and laboratory discharges. The radiation is bremsstrahlung from electrons that are accelerated to unexpected high energies. The acceleration process is not well understood but is interesting because it influences the dynamics of the discharges and their effect on the atmosphere.

  • The Department of Finance at the Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a number of vacant PhD scholarships within the field of financial risk management. The area is meant to be interpreted broadly and research proposals could, for example, address issues such as financial risk management in financial institutions (e. g. banks, insurance companies, mortgage institutions, pension funds), regulation of financial markets and institutions, derivative pricing and hedging, credit risk modelling, sovereign risk, the link between financial markets and the macro-economy, portfolio management, asset allocation, capital structure and financial econometrics.

The successful applicant must have a record of top grades from previously completed programmes. Priority will be given to candidates who have both a strong quantitative background and previous training in financial economics.
