The International Graduate College “Stochastics and Real World Models” Beijing-Bielefeld advertises fellowships for PhD students, starting Oct 1st, 2010 In the framework of an International Graduate College (International Research Training Group, supported by DFG) we offer fellowships for a PhD program starting October 1, 2010, for up to 3 years duration. The program is organized by the Bielefeld University Mathematics Department in cooperation with the Departments of Economics and Physics, the research institutions IMW and BiBoS, and together with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (partner institutions: IAM, AMSS, GUCAS).

At the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Walter Hofstetter 2 PhD positions (salary level E13, 75%) will be available from August 1st, 2010 for a total duration of three years. Both positions are part of the DFG Research Unit FOR 801 ‘Strong Correlations in Multiflavor Quantum Gases’. For more information see www.for801.de.
The ideal candidate is expected to have a masters degree (or equivalent) in theoretical condensed matter physics or quantum optics. Research experience in the fields of ultracold atomic physics, strongly correlated electrons or numerical simulations of strongly interacting quantum many-particle systems would be beneficial. Furthermore, the successful candidate should have the capability to work independently and show dedication to the research projects of the unit.

The Development Research Division (DRD) of the DAAD-funded South African – German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa is a cooperation project of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy of Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, and the School of Government and the Institute for Social Development of UWC.
For applicants from Sub-Saharan African countries with an excellent academic record the Development Research Division (DRD) offers a limited number of DAAD merit scholarships per year.

The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 33 fellowships for the 2011/2012 academic year. It proposes 10-month residencies in one of the 14 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Cambridge, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyons, Nantes, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar. The Programme builds on the strong reputation of the Institutes for Advanced Study for promoting the concentrated, self-directed work of excellent researchers within the stimulating environment of a multidisciplinary and international group of fellows.
EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in natural and exact sciences, if their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities. The diversity of the 14 participating IAS —which have agreed on a common selection procedure— offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions.
