The Faculty of Human Movement Sciences provides scientific education and performs research in the field of human movement. Scientific research is conducted within the Research Institute MOVE (www.move.vu.nl) and covers both fundamental and applied research with a strong integrative signature. The research group “ Biophysics and Psychophysics of Sensorimotor Control” investigates how sensory information is used in the control of movements.
Tasks
The division of labor in visual processing between two relatively separate cortical pathways, a ventral and a dorsal stream, has been hotly debated in the last decades: is the separation along attributes (ventral ‘what’ vs. dorsal ‘where’) or along tasks (ventral perception vs. dorsal action). So far, behavioral studies using motor tasks known to rely on the dorsal stream have yielded ambiguous results.

PhD position in Electrical Machines and Drives for automotive applications
The Department of Energy and Environment announces a PhD position within the Division of Electrical Power Engineering. The Electrical Power Engineering research group is heavily involved in research towards automotive applications, with the aim to reduce the environmental impact of transportation. The group is also active in the Swedish Hybrid Vehicle Center´s focus areas, Electrical Machines and Drives. This PhD-project is a cooperation between Volvo Cars and the Division.
Aim of work
The aim of the PhD student work is to develop well and suitable simulation models of the electric drive and battery system for integration with the mechanical and safety systems in hybrid electrical vehicles. Also utilize the models (standard for engine, electric drive and battery system) transformed to an automotive context to simulate energy balance and transient fault conditions. The models should be suitable for a co-simulation of a premium “2017-state-of-the-art low volume production car” with “Green, Safe & Connected”-functionality ready for high volume production year 2020.
