The Politecnico di Milano has published the admission selection call for the 27th cycle of Ph.D. programmes. In this call, the number of positions, the number of available scholarships, and the number of scholarships for foreign nationals is specified for each PhD.The call is open to Italian and foreign nationals. Displaced persons are considered as foreign nationals. In the case of dual nationality, one of them being Italian, the applicant must choose (for the sole purpose of the selection procedure for scholarships reserved for foreigners) the Italian citizenship.

The Department of Astronomy announces the availability of a fully funded, 4-year PhD student position in Astrobiology. The students will join the newly founded interdisciplinary Stockholm University Astrobiology Centre which is a virtual centre involving the Departments of Astronomy, Physics, Molecular Biology and Functional Genomics and Geological Sciences.

The Department of Astronomy consists of about 10 professors, 12 researchers and 25 PhD students, with a wide variety of nationalities. Research areas stretch from the Sun to the distant Universe.

A number of PhD scholarships are available at the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology, DTU Nanotech, starting in the summer/fall of 2011. The subject of the PhD project must be within one of the main research areas of the department:

• Cleanroom based micro- and nanofabrication
• Polymer micro- and nanoengineering
• Synthesis and self assembly of nanostructures
• Lab-on-a-chip technology
• Diagnostics and drug delivery
• Miniaturised sensor and energy technology
• Nanobiotechnology
• Theory of micro- and nanosystems
