  • The research involves the design and analysis of methods for trajectories of objects moving in 2- or 3-dimensional space. A proper definition of a “median trajectory” based on a collection of trajectories is sought, as well as efficient algorithms for computing such a median. The definition and algorithms should be robust when noise or outliers are present. The research continues by investigating how median trajectories can be used in various applications. These include trajectory collection visualization, trajectory clustering, classification, and related problems, for which efficient algorithms and implementations should be developed. This will be done in collaboration with researchers in these application areas, whose data will be used.

The research will lead to scientific papers in the fields of computational geometry and geographic information science, to be published in conference proceedings and journals. The collective research results will lead to a PhD thesis. (more…)

  • Vacancies for 10 PhD positions
    Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany. DFG – Research Training Group 1462 as of June 2011 / TV- L 13 E, max. 3 years

The research training group “Evaluation of Coupled Numerical Partial Models in Structural Engineering” is offering 10 positions for doctoral students for its second project phase. We are looking for inspired and dedicated individuals who are interested in doing research work in the multi-faceted field of structural engineering.

The overall aim of the Research training group is to assess the reliability, safety and robustness of numerical models. This evaluation considers a wide range of aspects and models. This includes, but is not restricted to, models that describe loads or the material and structural behavior of systems in structural engineering. Of particular interest are the interactions of these models in complex systems. Their influence on the quality of models of complex coupled systems is to be determined.
